Artist Statement

Detlef SchlichAs an interdisciplinary artist and ritual designer, I work across various mediums, including performance, photography, painting, sound, installations, and film. I’m particularly interested in the evolutionary origins of fear politics, the loss of boundaries between humans and technology in the 21st century, and the phenomenon of transhumanism in the digital age.

To explore these themes, I create alter egos or mythical characters that embody the symbiotic relationship between humans and technology in the context of transhumanism. Through my alter egos, I delve into the relationship between spirituality and technology, and I seek to re-spiritualize human experience through contemporary art.

My creative process involves using ritual performance footage as inspiration and then combining physical and digital media to create a final visual work. By collaging charcoal, acrylics, and digital elements, I aim to create unique and thought-provoking pieces that challenge our perception of the world and our place in it.
